
QUALIFICATION AND TRAINING PROCESS
Step 1: Learn the Skills in Boat building
Boat building Programme consists of four modules and is carried out at the following sites for a total duration of 46 weeks (including 4 weeks holiday):
- Health and Safety: JIA, Auckland City
- Boat building Basics: JIA workshop. East Tamaki
- Calculation, computing and drafting: JIA, Auckland City
- Basic Boat building Practices (approx. 16.5 weeks): focusing on practical skills at workplaces situated around Auckland.
Step 2: Gain Qualifications in Boat building
The successful graduates will be awarded the Jireh International Academy Certificate in Boat building Level 4 with 136 credits recognized by NZQA. Aligned with boat building qualification the following certificates will be awarded: First Aid Certificate, Site Safe Passport and HILTI Certificate which are essential for employment in the Boat building industry.
Step 3: Get a job
Following on from the 3 month period of work experience, JIA prides itself in placing its students into employment assist students wishing to gain full-time employment, Those who meet employer requirements will be able to register for Boating Industry.

Entry Criteria
For international students:
- 18 years or older;
- JIA literacy and numeracy tests;
- Interview for suitability to work in boating industry
- Males and Females are invited to apply
For New Zealand students:
- 18 years or older;
- NCEA Level 2 or equivalent (JIA literacy and numeracy entrance tests);
- Interview for suitability to work in the boating industry
- Males and Females are encouraged to apply.
Both international and New Zealand students can enroll by passing Jireh International Academy entrance tests (both literacy and numeracy).
For both these trades Jireh students study in the first eight months of their first year:-
- 3 days per week theory in the CBD,
- 1 day at Jireh's workshop in East Tamaki (9 Barmac Ave) and Hellensville.
- 1 day improving on their English and study time.
Thereafter for the next four months students are placed with employers for practical training and will receive approximately $200 (depending on the company's financial capabilities) a week to assist with travel costs and pocket money.
- Years 2 and 3 students are placed into apprenticeships with reputable boat building and carpentry employers where they will receive $25,000-$50,000 per year (depending on the Performance of the student).
