HE WHAKATAUKI
"Ko te manu e kai ana i te miro, nona te ngahere.
Engari, ko te manu e kai ana i te matauranga, nona te ao."
The bird that consumes the Miro berry, owns the forest.
However, the bird that consumes knowledge, owns the world.
OUR IDEAL
Our ideal is to engender world-class graduates in trades and professions achieved with kaupapa Maori values.
OUR MISSION
Is for Jireh International Academy to be brilliant at advancing trades and professional courses so that our students will add to New Zealand’s and the world’s cultural, social, technical and economic wealth.
Is for Jireh International Academy to be the preferred New Zealand trades school for international students.
Is for Jireh International Academy students to become global citizens who are culturally informed, adaptable so that they are able to get the jobs of their choice.
Is for Jireh International Academy staff to be leaders in their fields and willing to research and innovate so as to inspire outstanding performances from their students.
Is for collaborations to increase with other tertiary providers, health providers and business partners as staff and students learn to embrace kaupapa Maori values and find value in them for their lives outside of the school.
Since last year (2009) JIA officially registered with NZQA as a Kaupapa Maori provider bringing Maori magic into our school. Our aim has been to be more reflective as an indigenous Maori organization with a commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi. From a business point of view it has marked us out uniquely from the many international schools here in Auckland. Our belief is the world is ready for a Maori brand. Our graduation and completion rate over the last four years is ninety-eight percent. Moreover, our placement rate into employment after studies, over this same period averages 80%.
Jireh is a member of the Auckland registered Master Builders Association, and has access to placements with over 40 companies associated with the boat building and constructions industry.
Our Local Advisory Council (LAC) includes representation from the Building Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO), the Maori community, the Chinese community, the Philippine and the Korean communities. The interest of students, health and business representatives are also on our LAC.
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING AGREEMENTS
Over the last twelve months JIA has entered into quite a number of Memorandum of Understanding Agreements with organisations both here and abroad. The main advantage of these MoU’s has been to give a broader range of options to our students. It has also brought greater opportunities for them to gain work experience, apprenticeships and full-time employment.
