While you are studying, you have options regarding accommodation - homestays, hostel and apartments or flats. At JIA, we can assist you to find suitable accommodation. However, if you are a student under 18 years of age, we recommend that you stay at one of our approved homestays.

Homestay

For student who would like to experience living with a local family, this is a great option. You would possibly eat and spend time with your homestay family and have opportunities to practice your English in a living situation. Your homestay will provide you with:

  • your own room including a bed, cupboard and study desk with lamp,
  • meals for Mon - Fri: breakfast, evening meal (lunch: optional),
  • meals for Sat and Sun: breakfast, lunch and dinner),
  • no payment for water and electricity (may be asked for limited use),
  • payment for phone calls are responsibility of student,
  • limited use of homestay or your own computer.

The homestay company used by JIA is International Homestay (2004) Ltd. The company provides a full service and a copy of their handbook. All homestays have been inspected and approved by our accommodation agents.

Hostel

If you want independence, you may rent a room or share a room. The rent you pay will usually cover access to cooking, cleaning and bathing facilities.

In most hostels you can come and go as you please. You would have to do your own cooking or go out to eat. You may meet students or tourists from lots of different countries while living in a hostel.

Apartment/Flat

If you wish to stay in Auckland for a long period of time, you may prefer to look for an apartment/flat located in Auckland city. Students rent it from an agent or apartment landlord and may choose to split the cost of the whole apartment by divining the rent by the number of people who live in it. You may need to cook your own food or dine out.

TESTIMONIALS

Lee from Boatbuilding

This is a long term course for me but it gives me a chance to learn about my interests. I think it will be good for my future business back in Korea. New Zealand is famous in my country for Boat Building and I am lucky to study here.

My teacher has a lot of experience. I really like the workshops because they have a lot of tools that I can learn to use. I like Jireh because they cross credit my skills and they are also connected with BITO. They provide me with work experience later in my course and I hope that I will be able to impress them enough to get a full time job.

During my work experience I may obtain full time employment in the boating industry and if I want to do more training it will be quicker to become fully qualified.
