This programme provides you with the basic management skills required in the international travel and tourism industry. It incorporates knowledge of marketing, human resources, operations management, customer service and finance. These skills can transfer to many management positions.
Changes to the tourism industry prompted by globalisation will require you to confidently function in an international environment. Our curriculum and qualifications will give you a healthy combination of business and general skills required for a dynamic career path within the tourism industry.
This programme has compulsory modules in tourism industry, geography and management, economics, customer service, small business management, financial control, communication, commercial law and people management.
Career Opportunities
Management positions within the tourism and travel industry, perhaps with a tourism attraction, a regional tourist office, hotel, conference centre, or as a tour operator or travel agent within New Zealand or overseas.
Further Study Opportunities
Students may receive credit towards the Bachelor of Business Studies. Students may be eligible to sit examinations for the City and Guilds of London Diplomas.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet the general, discretionary or special admission requirements. Applicants must also meet the English language requirements (if they have a English Competency Certification or will study General English with us for at least 6 months).
General Admission
Applicants must:
- Be at least 16 years of age when the programme begins (or provide a completed Early Release Exemption form, which you can obtain from your local Ministry of Education office); and
- Applicants who do not meet the general admission requirements and who are less than 20 years of age when the programme begins may be considered for discretionary admission;
Applicants who do not meet the general admission requirements and who are at least 20 years of age when the programme begins may be considered for special admission:
English Language
Applicants must:
Have a minimum of eight NCEA credits at level 1, or equivalent; or
Have a grade of D or above in New Zealand School Certificate English, or equivalent; or
Must pass the Jireh English Competency Examination (literacy and numeracy) or an evidence of appropriate work or other experience;
Applicants may be interviewed.
